On the heels of saying he may retire after the huge fines that the NFL hit him with on Tuesday, James Harrison is obviously taking the threat pretty serious. Sources report that Harrison was excused from meetings and practice today after meeting with coach Mike Tomlin. No further details are available at this point, or when he may return.
“I’m going to sit down and have a serious conversation with my coach tomorrow and see if I can actually play by NFL rules and still be effective,” Harrison said on Tuesday. “If not, I may have to give up playing football.”
Harrison spoke on Sirius’ Mad Dog Radio, and was asked if he could be effective under the rules the NFL has passed down, and if he was serious about walking away from the game?”
“If I can’t get a clear understanding of exactly what I got fined for. If I got fined for what is right there on that tape, then I don’t see how I can continue to be effective and play this game. I mean, literally, you’re handicapping me. You’re taking away what, like I said, I was taught for the last 20 years on how to play the game. I can’t go in there and do what it is that I do, that I have been doing, and be effective. So, yeah, that is something that I’ll have to consider doing. I mean, I’m afraid to go out here and play the game the way I’ve been playing it. I mean, literally.”
