why should he be cut? see if he can go back to playing Tackle, or keep him as a backup for at least 1 year so he can help Markice.

He is going to be an overpaid back up. Last time I checked under sized centers don’t transition well to tackle haha cut him

Absolutely NOT! Fine back-up who may be able to solidify the G position if Essex isnt cutting the mustard. In my opinion, Hartwig HAS to be better than Essex!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with o-line depth. Although, if the Steelers can dump his salary to help resign Woodley longterm then I have nothing wrong with the potential move.

He’s making $3.7 mil, so sorry, if he’s not starting, he’s as good as gone IMO

I say keep Hartwig as a backup.
It is an uncapped year and since he only has 1 year left on his contract, the steelers don’t have to worry about cap space.
As far as the guy earlier mentioning signing Woodley -> the problems with re-signing Woodley are related to their not being a new collective bargaining agreement. The NFL is in the final year of its collective bargaining agreement with the players union, which mandates that any pay increases (this year) are limited to 30 percent.

If it were a capped year or Hartwig had more left on his deal, then I would say cut him.
A couple years ago Willie Colon started at right tackle, the Steelers franchise tagged Max Starks and payed him $7-8 million to be a backup (Marvel Smith was still starting at left tackle). Starks was the 2nd highest payed player on the team that year (behing Big Ben) and they had a salary cap that year.
Speaking of which, I think the Willie Colon injury has them spooked a little so they are going to keep the best players they have on the line (regardless of salary). I think they will keep both Hartwig and Doug Legursky, but Hartwig wont dress for games unless there is an injury since Legursky can do special teams, center, guard, and goalline FB.
