Byron Leftwich was supposed to be the franchise QB the Jaguars were waiting for. Instead, while the team had some success with him under center, it was basically four years of .500 football as the team went 24-20 in those seasons.
It still hurt the former first-round pick none the less when he was let go late in training camp before the 2007 season, and now, he’s letting loose on the team that he felt screwed it all up.
“The Jaguars really f–ked up that situation,” Leftwich recently told CBSSports.com. “We had a good group of players and the team let them all go. They let us all go. If they had been more patient, we could’ve done big things in Jacksonville.”
Leftwich tried to catch on with a couple teams after his release from the Jags, and it wasn’t till he landed with the Steelers before the 2008 season that he found any success – as a backup. A ring then took him to the Bucs for one bad year, before he landed back with the Steelers after a deal this past offseason.
“This is the first place where you feel like family,” Leftwich said. “This is where I want to spend the rest of my career. That’s what I mean by football paradise. This is football paradise. There is no B.S. here like other places. People tell you the truth here. They don’t lie to you. I don’t ever want to leave.”
Maybe next time he has the chance, unlike after 2008, he’ll think better of it.

Of course he does. The Jags will be the LA Jags in a few short years.
