Back to the QB situation, now it seems that Ben Roethlisberger may or may not play. Mike Tomlin said he won’t give a hint to who is going to start and play, but there seems to be a shot that the two-time SB winning QB won’t play at all.
“I want to play—I want to be out there with the guys. I’d like to play the whole game,” Roethlisberger said. “If coach says I’m not going to play, it’s his call.”
Roethlisberger did take first team snaps at points during camp, and so far has looked sharp. That leads some to think they will let Byron Leftwich, who is set to be the starter during Ben’s suspension, will get the start at QB and play the 8-12 plays with the first team offense.
“We started with a plan and we were very clear about that,” Tomlin said. “We’re going to provide Ben enough opportunities to have a productive camp and preseason and at the same time get clarity with our quarterback situation. I think we’ve stayed true to form thus far and we’ll continue with that as we get into the game.”

The media agrees with you, Mark, and so do I. Some argue that Ben shouldn’t play (to prevent injury, I presume), but he needs a little live action with the new receivers before he goes into mothballs for 4 games. Leftwich won’t get to play much longer than that either. It should be a heavy dose of Dixon the rest of the way, which will be a good opportunity for him to show how much he’s improved.
