So when you see the words ‘above and beyond,’ what exactly does that exactly mean? Those are two words that NFL commish Roger Goodell has used when it comes to saying what QB Ben Roethlisberger has been doing in the community to try and show that he means business about getting back to showing he’s not the scumbag many felt he was after the March allegations against him popped up.
Thursday at camp, Goodell was there, and Roethlisberger spoke about what he’s been doing to go ‘above and beyond’ to try and get into the fans and the leagues good graces again.
“It’s the things in the community that I don’t normally tell people,” Roethlisberger said. “It’s serving dinner at the Salvation Army, the Ronald McDonald House, going to the Caring Place and talking to families. Just things that I like to keep quiet because it’s not about everyone knowing. But we’ve let [Goodell] know that we’ve been doing these things.
“I wanted to show him that I would do everything he asked and then some. I want to get back out here as soon as possible to be with my guys.”
Goodell spoke to the media, and seemed to leave the door open for Ben’s suspension to be less than four games. Then the league spoke out and said that the suspension, which was at first six games, will be no less than four games.
“He’s the commissioner of the league,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s the boss of the bosses. He has the right to do what he feels is right to make his league run the way he wants it to be run. It’s a tough job. I can’t say it’s easy. He’s doing what he feels is right.”
While it’ll be four games, let’s hope the QB continues to go ‘above and beyond’ for the rest of his career on and off the field.
