Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons writes in his blog that he has been working out twice a day and as a result is in serious shape. “I did a lot of great things in the off-season. It hasn’t all been fun, though. I’ve been working out hard. I’m up to 248 pounds right now, no fat. I’ve got my abs back” writes Timmons. “Now it’s time to get ready for training camp on Friday. I’ve been working out like a dog so camp will be easy for me and I’m in some serious shape. I’ve been working out hard, doing two-a-days, working out then running or lifting. My trainers have me on some supplements now and I’m improving my wind, speed and strength so everything is going well.”

I’m a bit worried about this. Anyone remember what happened to Kendrell Bell when he decided to hit the weights too hard? He looked like Tarzan and played like Jane.

Good analogy, Mart, but with professional trainers helping him, Timmons should be OK. I reviewed last years films over the summer and noted mental errors and overly-aggressive pursuit by Timmons early in the season, but by the last four games, he really had it all toether and played very well. I expect big things from him this year.

He was already the fastest LB the Steelers had on the team and now appearently hes faster now. He might be scary good this year and really make a big name for himself

Timmons was the second linebacker taken in that draft behind Patrick Willis. The Steelers drafted him in the first round for a purpose, the purpose being that he will become the leader of the defense. I have had high expectations for Timmons since we drafted him, and having Farrior and Harrison mentoring and grooming him, I fully expect Timmons to have a career year. Timmons has the athleticism to become one of the Steeler greats!

I agree with Tony. He has the total package to be an impact, game changing player. I can’t say that I reviewed game film like Coach Dr. George but I work for a living. Unless Dr. George’s last name is either Halas or Allen, I don’t think it wise to put too much stock in his “game film study”. I hope that Timmons does come through to quiet some of the bloggers who question the draft acumen of Tomlin (even though it is not just him who should be called into question). Last I saw, the Patriots have recently had some weak drafts yet Belichick is still a genius. Go figure.

Mike, I readily admit that my surname is not Halas or Allen. And we appear to agree on Timmons’ impact status. So I’m confused by your disparaging ‘game film’ comment. It doesn’t take much time or skill to break down game film on dull evenings in the off season. Some diehard fans think it’s fun. If a guy isn’t lucky enough to be a sideline sports writer or a black and gold insider, what else is there? I didn’t claim my analysis of game film was perfect, but as a basis for commenting, it sure beats idle speculation, ouija boards, and tea leaves. On what higher authority was your comment based?

The funny thing about the “game film” comment is that you don’t have access to the kind of game film that would allow you to break down Timmons or any player for that matter. Football is telvised sideline to sideline… the worst perspective to evaluate what a player is seeing in front of them. I wish folks would be fans instead of trying to be a TV analyst. You might actual enjoy the game.
