Polamalu Says the Steelers Can Win Without Roethlisberger

Strong safety Troy Polamalu was asked by Yahoo! Sports’ Doug Farrar about Ben Roethlisberger, and the four-to-six game suspension that the quarterback faces. One thing Polamalu wanted very much to impart to those who are worried about the 2010 Steelers as a result of all the off-season turmoil is his resolve to see things right. “One thing that’s been kind of a good experience for us is that we’ve won games without Ben; people don’t seem to understand that;” Polamalu said.

The Steelers have a 5-4 record in the nine regular season games in which Roethlisberger has not played since his 2004 rookie season. “He’s missed quite a few games in the NFL, and we’ve done well because our defense understands that we need to apply that much more pressure. I think that this will be no different in that way, the only thing that’s different is the publicity that’s brought to the subject. There’s no question that we can’t win a championship without Ben, but there’s also no question that we can win games without star players.”

In addition to being an incomparable athlete, Troy is an intelligent and articulate man. His point is well taken, and one we’ve aired repeatedly here. The Steelers can win without Ben. I suspect Troy is simply being kind to his QB in suggesting the team couldn’t win a championship without him. If Ben were lost forever, the offense would be altered to enable the team to win with a less talented QB. Many teams have won the Super Bowl with QBs less talented than Ben. To do it, the rest of the team has to be better than the 2009 Steelers were. But it could be done.

Management made a concerted effort to correct some of last year’s deficiencies, and the 2010 Steelers should be better on defense, special teams, and the O-line. Mr. Loede in a prior article thought a 10-6 record within reason; I believe the teamy could be better than even that. A return to the playoffs is likely. Recent key injuries at OT have clouded the picture a bit, but I for one remain optimistic. The coaching staff is working with improved talent. In a few weeks, we’ll see what they can do with it.

yo ass is an incomparable athlete at blabbin a bunch of bullshit. big(dick)ben is a rapist and the steelers dont need him anyway to get there asses whooped by the browns. so the backup quarterback can just suffer the pain and get sacked 8 times cuz of the shitty O-line. dont even say you have 6 rings cuz we have 8 fukin rings, thats right 46 47 48 49 50 52 57 64, and we had appearences in 51 53 54 55 56, so that means, not conting 64(jimmy brown rocks),thats right, we made it to the friggin snickers chompionship 10 straight times(and won 7) and no other team in the hitsory of sports has ever done that. so dont say shit.

Tommy that is true that the Browns at one point over half a century ago was an incredible team and what they accomplished is almost unrivaled, however that was the era of football they benefited from. The Steelers success over the decades which they acquired 6 Superbowl victories has been far more difficult than the Browns. In todays game having to deal with free agency and other multiple distractions the Steelers are still able to remain relevant and very competitive, which ever since the Browns return to NFL they still remain less than lackluster. Keep in mind as a Brown, Donte Starworth killed a man, so don’t preach about the Browns organization because even with Ben and his unfortunate off the field issues the Steelers still remain the model for all NFL organizations.

i completely agree with troy! we lost willie colon but ppl 4get that steelers are running more in 2010..we have chris kemoeatu back (our best run blocker in my opinion b4 he got injured last season) and we get frank summers back as well! ppl say he didnt do so well in preseason but thats nothing close to the truth! add to that..maurkice pouncey is an upgrade on the right side or even at center and ramon foster can fill in and i can see him doing as well as willie colon considering tackle is his natural position. (call me crazy but i think ramon foster will do better than colon considering he has more bulk)
