Speculation Continues as to How the Steelers will Replace Colon

Pro Football Weekly has a piece today on the Steelers and what they will do to replace Willie Colon. Most of it falls in line with what we have already written, but some of it is interesting to read:

With the Steelers likely to be without ORT Willie Colon for the entire 2010 season after he reportedly tore his Achilles tendon on Monday, Pittsburgh is faced with replacing a key member of its offensive line. Free-agent OT Flozell Adams, the Cowboys’ longtime starter on the left side, visited Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Were Adams to sign, the Steelers could move him to right tackle or slide OLT Max Starks to the right side; Starks was the Steelers’ starter at right tackle in 2005 and ’06.

The Steelers could also promote a replacement for Colon from within, while keeping Starks on the left side, with Jonathan Scott, Ramon Foster and Trai Essex regarded as the most likely candidates to step into the lineup at right tackle. Scott started eight games for Buffalo last season — six at left tackle, two at right tackle. Essex, who started at right guard last season, was a reserve tackle in his first four NFL seasons. Foster, like Essex, can play inside or outside and started 27 games at right tackle collegiately at Tennessee.

Third-year OT Tony Hillis could also get a look on the right side; he received some practice reps at right tackle in the offseason. However, he has yet to appear in an NFL game. Rookie OT Chris Scott, who played left tackle at Tennessee, suffered a foot injury last week while working out at the University of Tennessee and was to undergo surgery.
