It sounds like from this letter that Deadspin got their hands on that Art Rooney II is starting to get a little tired of fans beating on the clubs franchise QB. Rooney sounds like while he’s still very peeved in every way about what Ben did, he sounds like he realizes it’s time to start looking ahead and putting what happened in early March aside.
Art Rooney II has been vocal about his disappointment in quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s off-field behavior and continues to condemn him both publicly, and in letters to concerned fans. The letter reads: “Thank you for your letter regarding Ben Roethlisberger. All of us in the Steelers family are concerned about the recent behavior of Ben in Georgia. I am certainly as concerned as you about our players’ behavior. I believe we have made it clear to Ben and all of our players, that there will be consequences for behavior that does not meet our standards,” the letter starts. The vast majority of our players are good people people who work hard to be the best that they can be.” In a telephone survey performed during the two days before Ben Roethlisberger was suspended by the NFL, 23% of people identifying themselves as Steelers fans said they wanted the quarterback traded.

never once did ben complain about lack of protection and the offensive lineman inability to protect him. in fact ben always gave credit to his lineman whenever the passing game was the factor which led to victory. if 23 % of steeler fans want ben traded , then77 % want him to stay. ben is a talented quarterback in which any team out there would jump at the chance to acquire him. we are very lucky to have drafted him. the best days yet to come are coming for ben. we will miss santonio , and yet i still miss randal el. i hope others will step up to the plate.

With 77% of the fans want Ben to stay I pray he gets his life in order. I am staying with my gut and banking on his success. No matter what he does moving forward these two baffoon matters will haunt him. All he can do is to head us to a super bowl, hopefully he remains healthy, or perhaps multiple super bowls. He has the talent and the team to put additional super bowls under his belt but he neneds to stay focused on his role as a leader and find a good women. After all he is 28

In our hedonistic society, those who uphold standards and reasonable expectations are often derided. That’s why other owners make lame excuses for their players’ anti-social acts. But not in Pittsburgh. Art Rooney II deserves the thanks and respect of the Steelers Nation for handling a difficult situation with tact and fairness. The Rooneys have to be one of the top franchise owners in any sport, and AR II has passed his first big test with flying colors.

dr george is by far my favorite fan response to read on these blogs keep em comin man… in light of all the new news about santonio being disgruntled on not getting a new contract after being super bowl 43’s MVP, i can honestly say the right decision was made.. did you once see jeff reed come out and badmouth the team? hes been waiting a long time for a big contract and he might have his chance today… you dont stir people up and talk shit about not getting a new contract and then get busted for drugs.. he got what he deserved but i still wish him the best in NY.. now as for ben i too agree that AR2 handled the situation brilliantly: he stood by his team, he stood by the NFL standards, and now through all of that he STILL STANDS BY HIS QB.. and he did it all in the right order too. makes you proud to have such good management. great president, great coach, great team.. sounds like winning football this season if you ask me
