Latest says Ben won’t be moved

It’s been the hottest topic in the NFL other than the Draft, and that’s the Steelers shopping of QB Ben Roethlisberger. Yesterday it seemed that Ben was on his way out the door, but now, reports from ESPN state that it seems that the QB won’t be going anywhere.

Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers fielding phone calls from other teams about the availability of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger over the past couple of days, it is extremely unlikely a trade will occur, sources told ESPN.com on Thursday. Multiple sources indicated the Steelers have not shopped Roethlisberger and have done nothing more than field phone calls. Many of the phone calls have come during the normal course of conversations of teams just checking in with the Steelers to see if they were willing to make other deals.

Roethlisberger lawyer David Cornwell took to the airwaves on ESPN Radio this morning on the Mike and Mike show, and said his client used bad judgement, but wants to stay with the Steelers, which we reported last night on Steelers Gab.

Lawyer David Cornwell was asked to identify the specific wrongdoing in which his client, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, engaged.

In a word (actually, two), Cornwell described it as “poor judgment.” Though he seemed to take issue with Commissioner Roger Goodell’s assessment that Roethlisberger “contributed to the irresponsible consumption of alcohol by purchasing (or facilitating the purchase of) alcoholic beverages for underage college students,” Cornwell acknowledged that Roethlisberger’s error was placing himself in a situation where excessive alcohol was being consumed, regardless of whether he was buying it or furnishing it to persons who were legally too young to be drinking.

Regarding the rampant trade rumors and reports, Cornwell said that Roethlisberger wants to stay in Pittsburgh. Cornwell also believes that Roethlisberger will not be traded.
