Steelers putting “Zero Tolerance” policy into place

So much for the Steelers players getting away with things. It seems that the latest round of off field issues by their franchise QB has meant it’s the end of the team putting up with any off field distractions. The club has put into place a “zero tolerance” policy, meaning if you get out of line, you had better look out.

The team was told today by coach Mike Tomlin that the team is instituting a zero-tolerance policy regarding off-field misconduct, according to the Associated Press.

“We were told early this morning either you get in line or you get kicked out of line,” offensive tackle Willie Colon said. “You are going to be traded or you’re not going to be here. If your conduct is going to play a part in you not being a good football player, they are going to get rid of you. There is a zero tolerance, not only with the NFL but with the Steelers.”

Colon was with Roethlisberger in Georgia when he was accused of sexual assaulting a 20-year-old Georgia woman. Roethlisberger wasn’t charged with a crime.

Tomlin has denied saying that to the team, but isn’t usually inclined to discuss internal team issues. And the Associated Press reported that several players have confirmed Tomlin’s remarks. “Guys took it different ways, depending on how they interpreted it, but I think after what we’ve seen go on, there’s not going to be much tolerance for stuff around here,” defensive end Aaron Smith said.

Based on the comments that you readers of Steelers Gab have left about how you want to see this team run, I would expect a lot of you to applaud the way this team is going to handle this situation.

blah, blah, blah. Suspend him for 8 games, give dixon a chance. If he plays great, sit Ben and use him as trade bait for next year. If the the steelers go 4-4 or worse in that stretch, let Ben come back and save the day then everyone will remember why we loved him so much.

8 games is too harsh… I say 2 games but wont be surprised to see 4 games.

My guess is two games also, George H. But it may be a structured or graduated discipline, such as a 4-6 game suspension with 2-3 games forgiven for good behavior. The net effect should be the same, if Ben minds his Ps and Qs, and R. Goodell would keep him on a leash for 6 games or so. Goodell and the Rooneys want to make a statement with this and nip the ‘bad boy’ behavior across the league.
