Friday the Steelers lost running back Willie Parker, who decided to ink a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins. Parker set a record back in Super Bowl XL with a 75-yard run against the Seattle Seahawks in the teams 21-10 win. Parker’s deal could be worth as much as $3.1 million with incentives.
Parker’s agent, Douglas Hendrickson, said the Redskins have told Parker that “it’s an open competition for the starting job.” That basically means he’ll duke it out with both Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis for playing time. There seemed to be some talk about Parker coming back to the Steelers, as it didn’t seem many teams really were all that interested in him, but it was not to be.
So long Willie, good luck in the Nation’s Capital.

A RB that came out of no where and helped lead us to the missing 2 Super Bowls. Not bad, not bad at all! Parker owes the Steelers nothing and I am grateful for the time he spent with this team. He really was a dynamic, explosive runner and that 1-2 punch of Parker-Bettis was a template for how teams are running the ball these days. I know it was done before, I am just stating that it is moe the norm in football now. That duo gave us the “one-for-the-thumb and Steeler fans should be happy they had a Fast Willie on this team. He is leaving as the 3rd most successful(stats wise) RB in our history, and has 2 Super Bowl titles too. I will miss Willie, but good luck in D.C.
