The other day we started with our countdown of the good and the bad with our Top 10 Moments of the 2009 season. You can go back to see numbers 10 through 6 by clicking HERE, and now here is moments 5 though 1:
5. Unknown Raiders WR Stuns the Steelers – Not many Steeler fans knew who Louis Murphy was before the Steelers-Raiders game on December 6th, but Murphy used his size to power past the Steeler corners in the fourth quarter, pulling in a 75-yard TD, then an 11-yard TD with 9 seconds left to pull out a 27-24 win. Murphy had four catches for 128 yards and two fourth quarter TD’s. A not so proud moment for the Steelers.
4. Keyaron Fox Goes Pick 6 vs the Vikings – All looked good for the Steelers as they beat the formerly undefeated Vikings in week 7 to move to 5-2. The game was put away as Fox intercepted a pass off the hands of Chester Taylor and rumbled 82 yards to seal the win in the final seconds. It was the second defensive score in the fourth quarter for the Steelers.
3. Caldwell and the Bengals Rally for a Week Three Win – The Steelers had beaten up on the Bengals all day, building a lead in Paul Brown Stadium, but a fourth quarter rally put Cincy in a position to win the game. A long drive saw them eat clock and wear down the Steelers D, and by the time it was over, WR Andre Caldwell pulled in a 4-yard catch for a touchdown with :14 seconds left. It was a letdown that would be relived all season long.
2. Polamalu Goes One-Handed vs the Titans – To think what would have been if Troy Polamalu would have been healthy the whole season. Well, in the teams opener on Thursday, September 10th at home vs the Titans, the all-world safety pulled in another amazing play, making an unreal one-handed pick in a nip and tuck affair that the Steelers pulled out in OT 13-10.
1. Wallace and Ben Combine for a Packer Miracle – All looked lost for the Steelers in their week 15 game vs the Packers. Down 36-30 and down to the final play of the game, Ben Roethlisberger went back to pass from the Packers 19 and threw for the end zone and Mike Wallace, who made a perfect shoe-string catch that was almost like the catch of Santonio Holmes from Super Bowl XLIII. For the Steelers, it was a day of celebration as the team won 37-36 to keep their playoff hopes alive – for at least one more week.

Isnt it sickening that the loss to the Raiders was almost exactly like the loss to the Bengals way back in the week 3. Last drive, eating clock and needing a TD. Both got it. What a horrible season for the Steeler secondary!I remember Burnett dropping that sure INT that would have iced the game for the Steelers. I also remember Farrior missing that tackle on 4th and long that let the Bengals keep their drive alive and scoring a few seconds later. That tackle would have iced that game too. The Steelers lost 7 games this season by a combined 28 points! How close they were from being a playoff team. The 2 losses early on were seemingly bumps in the road. The 5 losses in a row were tough to watch, but the losses to K.C, Oak, and Clev. in that stretch were abysmal and inexcusable. Tough year but I hope they learned from it and finished strong enough to realize they were a few plays from defending their title like a champ should have.
