The Bills have been looking for a coach the past few weeks, and there’s a surprise guy about to get the job, and he’s got a tie to the Steelers. Reports from FOXSports.com and the Buffalo News say that former Steelers WR and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey will be named as the new top guy in Buffalo.
If you don’t remember Gailey with the Steelers, he was the teams wide receivers coach in the 1994 and 1995 seasons, then the offensive coordinator in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. The club won their division all four years, and made one Super Bowl appearance, that being in 95.
The Steelers would have kept Gailey around, but he left to take over the at the time awful Dallas Cowboys, as he became their head coach in the 1998 and 1999 seasons. In 2009, Gailey was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator in the preseason but was stripped of his duties before opening day. He also has experience as a college head coach at Georgia Tech.
Once Gailey gets the job, he’ll be the Bills 6th head coach since Marv Levy retired after the 1997 season. The Steelers will face Gailey in Buffalo at some point in the 2010 season at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo.
