Did anyone hear the Jerome Bettis interview on Mike and Mike the other day. Jerome said that Ben had little influence on the Superbowl 40 game and the team had to win it. Now I love Bettis as a player but when he opens his fat mouth and spews out garbage, then I get annoyed. Im fairly certain it was a Bettis fumble on the goal line and a Ben tackle that managed to save the win against the colts.

@The Tony: I agree that since he retired, Bettis seems to talk just to hear himself talk, but he’s right about SB 40. Ben carried us in the playoffs and got us to the SB, but he was a non-factor in the SB itself.

Bettis actually said that Ben was a nonfactor in the playoff run to get to the superbowl, not just the superbowl itself. Im pretty sure Bettis didnt have a whole lot to do in the Superbowl either… Parker 75 yd td run and Randle El trick play td pass to Ward pretty much sealed it.

Let’s see, Ben made the big tackle to stop the Colts linebacker who scooped up Jerome’s fumble that almost blew it for the steelers historic run. Gee Jerome, how quickly you forget. I doubt they could have achieved what they did if Maddox or Batch were the quarterback. Ben had a nice game against Denver for the AFC championship if I recall too. Considering the source, I’d say Jerome almost blew it for the steelers against the colts and he was basically a non factor for the Champs in SB40. He simply was the storyline.

If Bettis really said these things, then shame on him. Ben had a GREAT playoff run. The 3 rounds that preceded SB XL was Ben growing up into a champion right before our eyes. He was a HUGE part of the championship run. Bettis was the heart and soul of the team, but Ben was player that was needed to get the job done. Yes, Bussie you are right about the game itself. Ben had a miserable statistic performance. But do NOT forget his running around and pass to Ward that set-up the first TD (the one Ben scored himself). Then the great block he threw to spring Randle-El on the signature play of the game. C’mon Bus, you embraced Ben as a rookie and came back that year because Ben told you he would deliver. He delivered!
