I would like to see the Steelers take Tebow and run the Wild Steeler on short yardage and in certain moments. The NFL is changing and we need to get on board.

I agree, but they already have a QB (Dennis Dickson) who could run the wildcat, but they never do it. And they won’t as long as vanilla Bruce is the O coordinator.

Tebow?? WOW, thats the first time I heard that one! GOD, I hope not! DEFENSE!! Thats what is needed to get back to January/February football. #1Steelergirl, you are right in that the NFL is changing but we have made that change with it. We had a very productive offense this season but adding a talented but not NFL ready Tim Tebow will not help. Seriously, would you want the ball out of Ben’s hands? Ever?

Dont take Tebow in the first round but in the 3rd if he is there. Remember Ben gets hurt alot and Dixon is not going to do very much. Tebow brings a winning championships attitude and desire that has Steeler football written all over it. Offensive linemen and maybe bring back Joey Porter for leadership. No Troy, No playoffs is what it boiled down to in my eyes.

Steelergirl, I love your ideas! Bring back Porter to play a backup position and make our defense even older, and spend a third round pick on a guy with a “championship attitude” that can do what Dennis Dixon can do!
I have one better…let’s not spend a pick at all and sign Tee Martin. He has a championship attitude too!
College champions always make the best NFL players!!!!!

Steelergirl, I love the enthusiasm but these are unrealistic ideas. I want the Steelers to take all players that bring attitude to the field also, but the team has leadership in Ward,Ben,Miller on offense and Troy,Harrison,Woodley and Smith on defense, not to mention Kiesel. Leadership is not lacking on the team and Porter coming back is never going to happen. He is damaged goods and not needed in Pittsburgh. I can see the team looking at a Chad Pennington as a back up for next season if he was there, but the Free Agent the Steelers are going after is going to be an immediate impact starter at either corner or Nose Tackle dependent on what Hampton does. As for Tebow, he will be there in the 3rd round but the Steelers will be drafting necessities and not experiments. I know all picks are somewhat of an experiment but the team has too many needs to draft a part time, gimmicky QB who is not ready to see the field or ever replace our current franchise QB.

Tebow is not good, all he knows is the spread offense & he’ll probably draft as a tight end

I keep coming back to the defensive line in the 1st rd. It all depends on how these kids do in the senior bowl and the combine. It just seems to me that the DL is old across the board. I am not ready to say Burnett and Lewis are busts. The Steelers have never inserted rookies into the defensive backfield. hell, Troy didn’t even start his rookie year. he played a lot in sub packages sure but he played special teams and learned the system. That is the reason i hesitate drafting a DB in rd 1. We won’t get much out of that pick year 1. I feel like DL is the way to go because it might be easier to learn an they can be an impact right away.
There is not enough duct tape in the world to keep my head from exploding if we waste a pick on tebow – mike 3:16

My prediction is the Steelers let Hampton go… hes just not what he used to be. Im willing to put money down that the Steelers trade up to around the 10-14 area and draft DT Cody. We did it with Hampton and wel do it with Cody. This kid is a beast, 6’5 365 lbs, very athletic. I would also like to see Taylor Mays fall to us. 6’4 athletic freak. With Clark and Carter as FAs, im sure wl go in that direction. So obviously my pick is DT or Safety. Hopefully we will go out and sign a capable CB because watching Gay and Townsed (another FA) was painful

I would like to see Eric Berry fall to 15-18, so they can trade up for him.Big hitting safety!

I like all of the draft names touted above and few others besides, but it will be difficult to trade up high enough to land them.
Which raises this question: If Hampton is let go, and with quality NGs so hard to find, do you think Tomlin would force a defensive switch to the 4-3? As I recall, that’s the alignment he favors, and ordinary DEs and DTs are a lot easier to find. If he did switch, would LeBeau stay? Any thoughts?

Cody might be still there…looking at a few different mock drafts and scouting reports, he might be the 4th NT available. Its really crazy to think that a player at his caliber would be the 4th best at his position, but i guess that happens when Suh and McCoy headline the draft. Also theres no way Berry will fall passed pick 5 IMO. Hes rated the number 1 prospect.

I don’t think that is such a bad idea, switching to the 4-3. With age slowing Farrior, the team can put a faster and younger Timmons as the MLB, let Woodley and Harrison stay outside. Maybe 4 D-lineman can create a bit more pressure to protect out struggling secondary. But, with all that being said, the current 3-4 alignment has really been very disruptive. If Hampton goes,or without a quality replacement, the 3-4 becomes very suspect. A BIG NT is needed to occupy 2 offensive lineman so that the LB’s can rush. It also make the zone blitz scheme that much more disruptive because as we know with that style, the pressure can come from anywhere. I dont know if the Steelers would just switch to a 4-3 or Tampa 2 that Tomlin likes so much and has had success with. A major move like that could cause an entire season to be wasted in the experiment. Maybe we will see more of the 4-3 during next season in certain situational plays? I think that this current off season, draft and free agent period will point the way for the next few seasons. If Tomlin starts to pick big, physical CB’s and stocks up on D-lineman than we might start to lean towards the 4-3.Besides, who knows how long coach Lebeau will stay. I do know he will leave on his own terms and will never be dismissed.

It’s fairly unlikely the Steelers would switch to a 4-3, since they don’t have the right players at linebacker. Harrison and Woodley are both much better pass rushers than coverage linebackers and are a little too big to play as a 4-3 LB. ( post gazette just wrote about this: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10015/1028516-367.stm ). I think Woodley could possibly play as a 4-3 DE if he bulks up a little, but it really isn’t a perfect fit and Harrison doesn’t translate well at all. Also, in a 4-3, there are less blitzing schemes – so corners are more likely to be in man coverage. I shudder to think of William Gay or Townsend in man coverage ………

i wouldnt mind to see us pick up kurt Coleman from OSU he’s tough a ballhawk capable of freakish plays and squared away off field he should be there in mid rounds and would work his butt off on special teams.

I think the Steelers really need a top Corner.
The defense stuggled this year when Troy was out at the end of games.
The reason why is -> at the end of games, you often have to play coverage.
The other team is usually running no-huddle from shotgun with multiple receivers and quick passes.
This slows down the pass rush, so to beat it, you have to play coverage.
A look at the Steelers coverage:
CB1 – Ike Taylor – Decent from a coverage point; but everyone knows that Ike can’t catch. As a result, opponents aren’t afraid to throw in his direction because (although he may break up the pass), he won’t intercept it.
CB2 – William Gay – Obviously isn’t ready to start in the NFL. Is at best a 3rd or 4th corner.
CB3 – Deshea Townsend – Lost a step and is getting older. Is at best a 3rd or 4th corner. Is decent depth, but doesn’t have all that much left.
CB4 – Joe Burnett – Still a rookie, and it shows. He needs some seasoning. Currently a 4th/5th corner.
CB5 – Anthony Madison – Let’s face it, he’s a special teamer -> not a corner.
SS – Troy Polamalu – Opponents are scarred to throw the ball where is is covering as he can intercept it anytime.
SS (this year) – Tyrone Carter – No danger for opponents here.
FS – Ryan Clark – No danger for opponents here, but provides a “yin” to troy’s “yang”. Need someone to “stay home” and play it safe in the middle of the field when troy freelances, and Clark is decent at that.

I like the idea of Tim Tebow. Only to be a back-up QB in the event Ben has any more hits to the head. Another reason, he could evolve; However, I think Terrence Cody would be the best choice.
just my opinion. =] Roll Tide!!
