Galloway To See Action Sunday?

Obviously the final call belongs to Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, but if the loss of wide receiver Limas Sweed along with the recent acquisition of Joey Galloway is any indication, it is possible that the former New England Patriots WR could see some action this Sunday when the Steelers play the Baltimore Ravens.

However, there is also the possibility that Galloway could be deactivated for the Sunday contest unless the Steelers suit up five WR’s or if Hines Ward or Mike Wallace suffer a setback before then. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians says that Tyler Grisham has a atsrong grip on the team’s #4 wide receiver spot; regardless of the final outcome, it seems to me that acquiring Galloway would be pointless if the team’s OC has all of this “confidence” in Grisham.

Matt, I fail to see the logic of the Galloway acquisition, unless MacDonald was not available. But having acquired Galloway, why deactivate him in favor of an inexperienced rookie when two starters (Hines and Wallace) are hurting? In other words, if Galloway still has enough skills to warrant a contract, why would he not be used? Or conversely, if Grisham is that good, why hasn’t he played? Does anyone know any factual basis for Arians’ statement — or is his comment merely a pre-game smoke screen for the Ravens’ DC? Surely, the Ravens expect Galloway to play.

I’m like you, George. I think that there is more to the Limas Sweed situation than the team will tell anyone. Keep in mind that Sweed is unavailable due to a “non-football”-related matter.

This kind of reminds me when the Eagles earlier this season rented Jeff Garcia for a couple weeks.
