AZcentral.com has a preview of the preseason opener of the Steelers-Cards game, and here is a quick tidbit from it:
Revenge isn’t in the game plan, given that the starters for both teams likely will play only a series or two.
“It’s just another game,” Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend told reporters this week. “The Super Bowl’s gone. We won it. We don’t care about the rematch.”
In truth, neither do the Cardinals. This is only a preseason game, a chance for some veterans to get a small taste of live hitting and knock out a little rust before turning things over to the kids trying to land a roster spot.
If there’s any drama entering this game, which will be nationally televised, it likely will end a few minutes after kickoff.
“They’re a good football team
so it’s a great opportunity for us to see how we stack up with some of our players,” said Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who spent six years as a coach with the Steelers before coming to Arizona in 2007.“But that’s a different team that won the Super Bowl and we’re a different team. I think there’s going to be a lot of excitement being there and playing in that stadium, but revenge for the Super Bowl. No, I don’t think so.
“Now if we can get back to the Super Bowl and play them again I would say, ‘Yeah, that would definitely be the case.’ “
