The Steelers have had another starter step up and redo his deal so the team could get some space under the cap to be able to do business with rookies and maybe some other vets for the rest of the 09 season. Ike Taylor is the player that has stepped up for the Steelers, as he’s reduced his 2009 base salary of $3.5 million.
It’s the 2nd straight season that Ike has redone his deal for the club. He had signed a five-year, $23.75 million extension in 2006. “There was a minor restructure,” Ike’s agent Joel Segal said Wednesday. Taylor was a stud last season for the champs, as he was a Pro Bowl alternate, and the best corner on the club.
Last season Ike reduced his $4.1 million base salary by $3 million. He will have two years remaning on his deal when the 2009 season kicks off vs the Titans. “Any time a high character guy like Ike asks you to represent him, it’s flattering and exciting. He’s an elite corner,” said Segal. “You haven’t seen the best of him yet.”
