We all know that the Steelers have a rich tradition of big plays over the course of their history. From six Super Bowls to countless playoff games to huge wins, the Steelers are the most celebrated NFL team in history for a number of reasons. Today we wrap up our countdown of the “Top 10 Catches in Steelers History”. Today, we throw out Number 1.
Number 1: February 1st 2009 – Santonio Holmes’ Winning Catch in Super Bowl XLIII
While the Immaculate Reception may have been the play to get the Steelers rolling from a history of losing to greatness, the winning catch by Santonio Holmes in Super Bowl XLIII over the Cardinals ranks as our number one biggest catch in Steelers history. There was a number of reasons to celebrate this catch – from the way that Holmes was able to keep his feet in bounce, to simply the magnatitude that it came in – :35 seconds left in the biggest game of the season to clinch a World Title. No one can doubt how big Holmes was in the playoffs, a punt return TD vs the Chargers in the Divisional playoff game, a long TD vs the Ravens in the AFC Championship game, then the biggest catch of his career in the Super Bowl to clinch a 27-23 win. Holmes’ career has a long way to go, but this catch will for sure be one that will be tough to top when his career is said and done.

Nice capper to the top ten list. Maybe it’s because that catch is still so fresh in my memory, maybe it’s because it brought home the sixth Lombardi trophey, but I can watch that clip over and over.
Thanks!
