We all know that the Steelers have a rich tradition of big plays over the course of their history. From six Super Bowls to countless playoff games to huge wins, the Steelers are the most celebrated NFL team in history for a number of reasons. Today we start our countdown of the “Top 10 Catches in Steelers History”. Today, we throw out Number 3. Be back tomorrow for Number 2:
Number 3: January 18th 1976 – Lynn Swann’s acrobatic 53-yard Catch vs Dallas in Super Bowl X
While the Hall of Fame wide out made four amazing catches in the Steelers second Super Bowl win, it was this 53-yard gem that gets replayed the most and is a signature play of Swann’s career. With the Steelers backed up inside their own 10, Terry Bradshaw went deep for Swann, and he tipped the ball up in the air to himself, and then came down with his knee on the chest of Cowboys CB Mark Washington, and was able to pull the ball in. It also came on a third-down play as the Cowboys were bringing the house against the Steelers. While the drive actually stalled at the 19-yard line, and ended with no points, it’s the catch that is shown the most of the four big ones he made that day en route to being named the MVP of Super Bowl X.
