The Steelers today agreed to bring back one of their own on the O-line, as they re-signed offensive lineman Trai Essex to a two-year deal. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Essex is important to the Steelers, as he can play either tackle or guard. He’s back for his fifth NFL season after the Black and Gold picked him in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.
He has played in 33 career games, making four starts during the regular season. He has appeared in two playoff games, including his first postseason start at left tackle in the 2008 AFC Wild-Card Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The team has now inked guard Chris Kemoeatu, offensive tackle Max Starks and linebacker Andre Frazier as unrestricted free agents who are back with the club
