Could McFadden Leave the Steelers to Land in Miami?

Bryant McFadden could find a great payday come next Friday via free agency if the Steelers don’t get him locked up by then. The Steelers Thursday put the franchise tag on Max Starks, meaning he’ll be back in 2009, but it also means that McFadden could be free to go.

Thursday the South Florida Sun-Sentinel talked about McFadden going home to play for the Dolphins, and it seemed like when asked about it, McFadden didn’t seem all that opposed to playing elsewhere besides Pittsburgh next season.

“My first option is going back to the Steelers, but I’m looking for a nice little check,” said McFadden, a former Florida State star.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert says that trying to get McFadden back to play opposite Ike Taylor in 2009 is something the team wants to do, but they have a lot of other players to try and deal with. “He is a priority, but we’re not going to be able to keep this whole team together. We will continue to negotiate with all our free agents, and what comes together comes together,” Colbert said.

“It only takes one team to accelerate the price. It doesn’t take a great market [at the position],” Colbert said. “But if one team has a sincere interest and you’re not able to match that you’re probably going to lose that player.”

I’m not going to pretend to know more than these people so I won’t say anything ya know, presumptuous based. I will say that it SEEMS like McFadden defenses passes, has relatively little wear on his proverbial tires and can cover well plus has better ball skills than our number one corner while someone like Kemo gets our quarterback sacked and commits personal fouls on a relatively regular basis..But, six rings says I remain on the couch (for now).

It would not surprise me to see B-Mac in Miami. I also thought Nate could end up there too. I really hope the Steelers bring back McFadden and Washington. These are 2 very important pieces of the Steeler machine. Both have 2 rings now, both were big contributors and niether has ever fell out of the graces of the team or its fan base. We can always say that about a lot of FA, but these two guys are young!!

mark: Washington is 100% gone. Steelers have big money wrapped up in hines, santonio and sweed. And it’s a really weak bunch of wr’s in free agency this year, Washington may be the best and I’m sure someone will make him a much better offer than Pitt could match.

Yeah, I’m not even worried about Nate…I’d like to see him stay but Mcfadden is a higher priority and as each day goes by, it seems like even Bryant is going to leave now too. I hate that for two reason: (1) He is good! (2) we may have to draft a corner in the first round and I hate drafting those guys in the first round in lieu of O-Linemen and D-Linemen (just a preferential thing).
