They’re the teams that Steelers fans have grown to hate over the years. When you see these teams on the schedule, your blood starts to boil just a little bit more, and you start counting the days till those games. Why of course it’s the rivals of the Steelers that we’re talking about, and here we go with the teams top 10 all-time rivals. Today we continue with number 4:
4. Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans – The Steelers-Oilers games were always a blast to watch, as Houston always gave the Steelers a run for their money in the “Steel Curtain” era of the 70’s. From Bum Phillips to Earl Campbell, the Oilers were a threat to the Steelers, as the two foes met in back-to-back AFC Championship games in 1978 and 1979, with the Steelers winning both at home 34-5 and 27-13. Then Houston underwent a change as they employed the now defunct “run and shoot” offense of Warren Moon and his wide outs in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The Oilers then bailed to Tennessee before the 1996 season, but the teams still battled twice per year till Tennessee moved to the AFC South after the 2001 season. Now they are two of the better teams in the AFC, but the years of Bum Phillips vs Chuck Noll is still the highlight of this feud.
