Roethlisberger Had a Spinal Cord Concussion vs Cleveland

Seeing how he played yesterday you would have never known it, but the Post-Gazette reports today that QB Ben Roethlisberger had a “spinal cord concussion” a few weeks back vs the Browns. It’s the same injury that was suffered by former QB Tommy Maddox vs the Titans back in the 2002 season. Maddox also was able to come back from the injury as well a few weeks later.

The paper says that Roethlisberger’s type of injury is why the Steelers medical personnel removed his facemask and placed on a spinal board when they carted him from the field. Ben didn’t stay at Presbyterian Hospital that night, and did get back feeling in his arms and legs with no issues.

Roethlisberger did pass all the necessary tests to get back on the playing field for yesterday’s 35-24 divisional playoff win over the Chargers that puts the Steelers in the AFC Championship game this Sunday vs the Ravens. The QB threw for 181 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions against the Chargers
