Yet another tidbit today about Bill Cowher in the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
Steelers chairman Dan Rooney said that Pittsburgh will not block Bill Cowher from returning to coach in the NFL if he wishes to. Cowher had one year remaining on his contract with the Steelers when he decided to hang it up to spend more time with his family. Rooney did say, however, that he didn’t expect Cowher to coach in 2009 because he currently is happy where he’s at.
It’s amazing how much talk there is about Cowher and the chance of him going to coach the awful Browns in 2009. One would think that Cowher would want to go to a organization with more things going for it than the Browns, which has been a disaster since they came back in 99.
Plus there is the fact that the Browns probably are going to keep Opie Cunningham…er – Phil Savage as GM. That means that Cowher would have to work with Savage, who has proven this year one thing – he’s a solid scout, not a good GM. Cowher will coach again someday, and maybe it will be in 2009, but I would be stunned if it was in Cleveland.
