If it’s Blue and Gold…… it is probably “Sold Out”
For any business 2009 is off to a great start with everyone wearing, waving, and even buying products packaged in these true San Diego colors. A winning streak has had an emotional effect on fans.
The AFC West title came down to the final game of the regular season, and manufacturers had little time to create merchandise touting the Chargers victory. So stores that were already well stocked with anything blue and gold are doing well.
Local San Diego grocery stores that stock a familiar organic tortilla chip packaged in a bright Blue and Gold package found them literally flying off the shelves like a Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates screen pass. The brand, Whale Tails Tortilla Chips, is produced locally and the shape beats every other chip out there in terms of a dipping chip. Saturday night was a huge night for dip, chips, and your favorite beverage and just like the way the Chargers put every thing together in a winning package, these San Diego eco-entrepreneurs are doing the same. They combine organic corn, expeller pressed oils and gourmet Alaea Hawaiian Sea Salt that contains over 80 essential minerals into a tortilla chip shaped like a whale’s tail that moves through a bowl of guacamole like Darren Sproles moving through a defensive line…”smooth baby smooth” I called and spoke with Ric Kraszewski , VP Sales of Whale Tails Tortilla Chips, and he said “ I have never seen anything like it. We have a great local following but I knew something big was happening when Newman called from Olive Tree Market in OB and said Dude, get some more cases down here a lady came in and bought all we had for her Blue and Gold Charger Party” Ric’s wife, Terry and CEO of the company, was the one who decided on the colors of their package and commented “We have lived in San Diego all our life, Blue and Gold was just a natural”
Mike Castellucci reporter for local news station KUSI was at Walmart Tuesday morning looking for any Chargers gear he could get his hands on. Mike said “you can not find a Sproles Number 43 Jersey”. Biggest sellers are chairs, beach towels balloons, flags, blow up helmets, and coolers. Walmart said they have more Blue and Gold Merchandise on the way just in time for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers who sport the colors of Black and Gold.
