Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes is in trouble, as WPIX-TV is reporting that the big play Steelers WR was cited by police on charges of marijuana possession. “When they pulled him over, they found there was a smell of burnt marijuana in the vehicle,” said Sgt. James Vogel. “Mr. Holmes was very cooperative with officers and turned over some items to us and was subsequently summoned for those items…a couple of marijuana blunts.”
The police spokesman went on to say that Holmes was very cooperative, respectful and wasn’t impaired. Vogel, who must be a Steelers fan, says he feels that the way Holmes acted should be taken into account when it comes to any potential action taken against him by the Steelers and the NFL. “We wouldn’t expect a steelworker to be laid off or suspended without pay,” said Vogel. “I wouldn’t expect a police officer, firefighter or a member of the Steelers.”
Holmes has had some issues in the past, including an arrest in Miami Beach back in May of 2006 for disorderly conduct. Charges were subsequently dropped after Holmes paid a fine. Holmes was arrested for a second time in June of 2006 for domestic violence and assault in Columbus.
This season the Steelers WR has 22 grabs for 360 yards and one TD. It’s not known if the team will take any action against Holmes before Sunday’s big showdown vs the Giants.
