With the team placing backup QB Charlie Batch on injured reserve, his career with the Steelers very well may be over. Despite being a great leader in the locker room, Batch’s contract expires at the end of the 2008 season, and with the OK to solid play of backups Byron Leftwich and rookie Dennis Dixon, the future for Batch is unclear at best. He had said he didn’t want to go on IR, but with Leftwich and Dixon playing well enough to lead the team to a 3-1 preseason record, the team had little choice.

I would love to see Batch come back as a coach. He fits in well with the community, knows the system and the players respect him. I think he has a few years of football left and it may still be in Pittsburgh.
Eeither way, I hope he comes back in some capacity because he has been great for the team. Charlie Batch does not owe the Steelers anything.

I agree. The NFL is a cruel business, and if a team can get better at a position due to ANY reason they will. Charlie has been a solid Steeler and a solid member of the Pittsburgh community. Props to him.

I think allot of Steeler fans may have seen this coming. I know I did. Charlie is proof that fans can still appreciate a gentleman footballer as much as a showman.
I’m with Mark on bringing Charlie back as a coach if his career as a player winds down.
A First Class Guy.
