Last season the Steelers had to live with the distraction of O-lineman Alan Faneca basically knowing it would be his last year in Pittsburgh. This years version of that may be OL Marvel Smith, who also will be entering the last year of his contract with no new deal in sight. Despite the facts being the same, Smith told the Post-Gazette that he is not letting it effect him. “Yeah, it’s frustrating, but I deal with it differently,” Smith said. “If I can’t control it, I don’t worry about it. It’s not like I can give myself a contract.” Smith has already gone on record saying he wants to stay a Steeler, and while nothing has been done yet, I wouldn’t be surprised if the team and Smith can come to some sort of deal that keeps him in black and gold.
