Fullback Lorenzo Neal recently said that the Steelers are one team on his list of three that he would like to play for. Michael Silver of Yahoo.com wrote the following about Neal and where he’d like to end up in 2008: “Neal is hoping to hook on with a team that values a traditional power running attack. He lists the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers among his desired destinations.”
I for one think that bringing in Neal would be a great move for the Steelers. Sure, he is a journeyman veteran (6 teams in a 15-year career), but he has produced wherever he has played, and is a great locker room guy to boot. Carey Davis did a nice job last year at the fullback role, and bringing in a player like Neal does not mean that Davis would not still be a big part of the team. Let’s face it – as we know all too well from last season – injuries do happen.
Last season the Steelers put up 135.5 yards per game on the ground, third in the league. Willie Parker is a great back that could always use another good blocker up front, and if Neal comes in knowing his role, he is more than worth the look that he deserves.
