The Steelers now have insurance at the quarterback position; the team, according to the Idaho Statesman, is expected to sign former Boise State quarterback Jared Zabaransky to a free-agent contract Monday. Zabaransky, who was not selected in the 2007 NFL Draft, spent a portion of last season on the Houston Texans’ practice squad; he played for the Texans during the preseason but was later released.
Zabaransky, who said he worked out for the Steelers last week, was 33-5 as Boise State’s starting QB from 2004-06. He is expected to back up Charlie Batch as the Steelers’ #3 QB, as Brian St. Pierre is not expected to return.
