With yet another beating coming to the Browns Sunday, time to take a quick look back at my three favorite Steelers-Browns game played in Pittsburgh. Feel Free to comment with your own and if we get enough we’ll do another post with reader submissions.
1. Steelers 29 Browns 9 (AFC Playoff Game Jan 1995) – The Browns, after losing twice to the Steelers in 94 promised this time it would be different. It was not. It was actually worse, as the Browns were no match for the Steelers run game, and they ran all over the Browns with Barry Foster and Bam Morris. Of coruse despite the great win, the Steelers lost the following week at home to the Chargers in the AFC Title game.
2. Steelers 36 Browns 33 (AFC Wild Card Playoff Game Jan 2003) – The Steelers scrambled all day long to find some sort of tempo on offense, and finally it took about 3 and a half quarters to find it. They trailed by 17 at one point, and scored 29 in the second half and 22 in the fourth quarter to win it. Tommy Maddox led the comeback, and Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala’s 3-yard run won it with :54 left. Maddox with 367 yards and three scores.
3. Steelers 17 Browns 7 (December 1994) – The Browns barked their way into Steel Town with a good defense, but before you could blink the Steelers led 14-0 on a Neil O’Donnell to Yancy Thigpen score and a Barry Foster 1-yard run in the first quarter. The Steelers D shut down the Browns all day on offense, and a Gary Anderson field goal clinched it as the Steelers won the division and clinched home-field with the win.
