Steelers rookie linebacker Lawrence Timmons will get a second opinion from a Philadelphia doctor today on his injured groin muscle that has caused him to miss all but three days of workouts since he was drafted in April. Timmons was hurt on the second day of mini-camp in April and then re-injured it three days into camp at Latrobe. Coach Mike Tomlin says Timmons should be back at camp by tomorrow. Running back Willie Parker and guard Alan Faneca are facing some extended time off with injuries of their own. Parker has missed the last 12 days with a left knee injury and Faneca left Sunday’s win over New Orleans with a shoulder injury. Both could sit out Saturday night’s pre-season clash with Green Bay at Heinz Field. Meanwhile, starting linebackers Larry Foote and James Harrison both returned to workouts. Harrison missed a week with a rib injury and Foote was recovering from a sprained ankle.

Timmons appears to be a bust. I didn’t like this pick when we took him in April and I especially don’t like him now. At least we have Woodley. And what’s up with Faneca? You think he’s playing this up a little so he doesn’t have to play in the preseason? After all why risk getting injured if you want a contract with another team at the end of the year.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call him a bust just yet. I’d really like to see what he can do myself, but we will in due time. I think he’ll be nasty, just like we already know Woodley is. Imagine Timmons dominating like he did at FSU on one side and Woodley eating guys up on the other side. Can’t ask for a much better tandem.
As for Faneca, I don’t know what’s up with his health, but I can’t say I don’t dig the mountain man beard he’s got going on right now.
