The Steelers finally got some news they have been waiting for on Saturday, as wide out Santonio Holmes was back on the field, participating in individual drills for the first time. Word is he will be on the field again today taking part in what will be his first full practice since the start of training camp. Holmes has been out with a non football related surgical procedure. “Just getting the opportunity to get back on the field felt good,” Holmes said. “I’m tired of sitting around and watching.”
While he is still not at 100 percent, just getting him back on the field is a good first step for a guy that is expected to have a big impact on the Steelers passing attack in 2007. “It’s time,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “He’s going to do everything (today) so he can start catching up.” Holmes caught 49 passes for 824 yards and two touchdowns last season, and said Saturday that the biggest challenge he faces is getting into football-playing shape.
