Three players are going to start camp for the Steelers on the PUP List (Physically Unable to Perform). Those three are Verron Haynes, Santonio Holmes and Derek Rehage. The biggest of the three is Holmes, who is expected to be the #2 wide out in the Steelers offense next to Hines Ward. Head coach Mike Tomlin said about Holmes, “Santonio had a minor surgical procedure that is not football related. He’s going to be watched for a day or two, but it’s a non-issue.” Knowing how much stock the Steelers are putting into the passing game as well as putting 4 and 5 wide out sets out there, the injury to Santonio had better be a minor issue.
Haynes starts came on the PUP list as a “precautionary measure” that goes back to his knee surgery that he had last year. It is unknown on when he may be ready to be able to take the field. As far as Rehage goes, he had a pin removed from a thumb injury he sustained while playing for NFL Europa
