Today there was an article on one of our sister sites – DolphinsGab, about LB Joey Porter and the fact he won’t be back with the Fins in the 2010 season. Porter was a huge part of the Steelers Super Bowl win in the 2005 season, and it was tough when Mike Tomlin came in to see Porter go.
He had 8 pretty memorable seasons with the Steelers, and was a big force in those four games of the 05 playoffs when he was sacking Peyton Manning and then stripping Jake Plummer to help the team get to and win the Super Bowl. Once he went to Miami, he had a huge second year, putting up an AFC high 17.5 sacks. Last season though was tough, he had 9 sacks but his mouth got him in trouble more than once.
So the question is – do you think the Steelers would take a chance on Porter once he hits the open market? Now of course the Steelers have two Pro Bowl outside linebackers with LaMarr Woodley and James Harrison, so in that regard, there’s not a whole lot of room for him.
At 32 years old though, he could be an interesting backup at the OLB spot, and maybe could add some more fire to a unit that underachieved last season. So what do you all think? Is Porter worth the money and trouble at this point in his career? It would be an interesting signing to say the least.

I’d LOVE to have Peezy back, despite that questionable picture of him above the article.

I would love to have J peezy bac.. He brought the attitude and intensity needed to play defense at a high level.. We do need depth on the outside because it seemed as though Harrison wore down toward the end of the season.

Man, that would be totally awesome having Joey back. He is a leader and he makes noise and raise the STEELERS level of play. Yep, sign him up. Put Woodley at ILB. Have Timmons, Joey, Harrison and Woodley and Harrison ratate at OLB that will give others time to rest up. I can see 7, 8, 9 and possibly 10 SB in the next 5 years for the mighty STEELERS with these guys.

As a fan I would absolutely love to see Porter back in black and gold. He would be a tremendous uplift physically and mentally for the defense. He would be a backup for sure, rotating with the rest of the linebackers and it would help keep Harrison fresh for the long haul. Realistically I highly doubt it will ever happen. At 32 Porter still has a few good years left and a team is going to pay him accordingly. Unfortunately, the Steelers wont be one of those suitors. They certainly need depth, but Porter’s pricetag will be a tad too high.

I would love to see porter back…I don’t believe they will do it because they need to spend there money else where like corners, corners and more corners…But it should would be nice to have him back.

Move Woodley inside? Is steelers4ever nuts?? Woodley is turning into one of the best OLB in the league, and is only nearing his prime years. As for Porter, back-up role at reduced price, its a no-brainer. Multi-year deal, high priced and competing for a starting job, no way. I think Peezy has a year of production left but not at the expense of him causing a disruption by wanting to start. Harrison and Woodley are too good and too fresh to lose playing time. If Porter wants to be a back-up and rotate then Im all for it.

I think Porter should go back to the Steelers. He was indeed a big part of the 05 super bowl. And I loved how he sacked peyton manning so many times. The steelers could use him they are a good team and with Porter I think they would dominate!! :] steelers baby for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please bring him back! He belongs in Pittsburgh and should be allowed to finish his career there, no matter how many years he plays.

I feel that if Pittsburgh could get Joey for the right price, it will be worth every dollar in the emotion he brings to the team and us fans. Number 55 belongs in Black and Gold!

Heck Ya that’s not even a question WE WANT PORTER AND FOOTE back. We need the depth, leadership and someone to replace an aging slower Farrior. PLEASE bring them back….P.S. Love the RANDAL EL signing, he’s a burner that can catch balls over the middle. Like 86, maybe he replaces him in 2-3 yrs.???
