The Steelers will be talking to CB Alphonso Smith, along of course with a bunch of other teams. The defensive secondary is another position that the Steelers will look to upgrade through the draft, and Smith is a player the Steelers have their eyes on. PFT reports on the CB talking to a number of teams below:
Highly regarded Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith is in heavy demand from NFL teams, according to a league source. Per the source, Smith is scheduled to visit the Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. Projected to be drafted within the first two rounds, Smith is an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection who was named third-team All-American last season.

One thing that strikes me is something Mike Lombardi recently said on Bill Simmons’ podcast; teams that build from their strength seem to be good every year. Lombardi was talking about the Giants signing up a couple of defensive line studs and I think the same should apply to the Black and Gold. Yes, we need help on the offensive line, but let’s make sure we get some help on the Defense and keep that machine working well.
