Here we go again with another injured starter for the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger will likely miss this Sunday’s game versus the Cleveland Browns. Is it time to panic? Not at all. Talent, plus potential extra money and value, should aide and motivate Landry Jones this Sunday.
Jones has shown he is capable of getting the football into the hands of top playmakers Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant. But, he may be asked to spread the ball around and throw more if the running game struggles Sunday as his arm strength will be tested. Jones understands that, with the struggles of Michael Vick and with injured quarterback Bruce Gradkowski likely not returning next season, a sound win as the starter Sunday would lift him into the second spot on the depth chart very soon and his future will begin to be taken more seriously by the organization and opponents. In a league in which quarterbacks are constantly sought after, a solid performance from Jones will get the attention of certain teams around the league as a top backup or potential starter.
Jones has shown the ability to play well in an emergency but now must prove he can get the job done, when the other team has game-planned for him, for 60 minutes. At the beginning of the season most fans and experts had given up on Jones. After this Sunday’s game we could be looking at him as possibly being the future.
